“The Flying Wheelchair”
Yochy’s favorite artist, Auguste Rodin, asserts “The artist must create a spark before he can make fire!” Surrounded by nature, no boundaries, no limitations….
During her recent journey to South East Asia, Yochy enjoyed peering through the airplane window imagining herself not bound by the chair, but erasing all realities and limitations.
Yochy saw herself soar like a bird, as her flying experience spawned wings she became one with nature. Yochy’s experience took life, as portrayed here in a wild prairie like piece of art.

“Seeds of …Hope”
Yochy was inspired to create a huge garden of Hope.  One where a person can feel peaceful, relaxed, calm, full of love and laughter.  A place sans worries, sorrow, pain and illness.  A garden filled with warmth, love and a plethora of colors.
From the moment each dot was placed on the canvas, Yochy could visualize the completed painting.
“Beauty of Fall”
Yochy translates the “Beauty of Fall” into an amalgam of changing leaves.
Yochy worked on this painting during many late November, December and January nights after all of the leaves had abandoned the trees.
Despite the wintry, bare reminders, Yochy kept the memory of the season’s charm and beauty in her heart.

“Perfect July”
Not too hot, not too cold – a perfect day.  One can hear the gentle rustling of the leaves swaying in the breeze.  A majestic hidden waterfall lies ahead.
Here, Yochy ushers you into a lush setting emulating a steamy July.  The thick foliage and brightly colored flowers accent the cool refreshing waterfall.
Just one look and the viewer senses that the temperature has risen. Next, you find yourself inching towards the waterfall.
“ The Blue Rhapsody”
In July 2006, Yochy attended a gala honoring the 70th anniversary of Gershwin being performed at the Ravina Festival.  At that time Yochy’s recently finished “Blue Sea” painting was complete, but un-named.
As the Chicago Symphony Orchestra began to play the beloved “Rhapsody in Blue,” Yochy’s heart beat faster.  She heard the sound of waves from her “Blue painting” come alive.  At that moment, Yochy excitedly christened her painting “The Blue Rhapsody.”

“The French Painter”
Yochy’s painting “The French Painter” was inspired by her visit to the French Riviera.
Here the memory of Monet, Picasso, Chagall, Gauguin, Cezanne and all who lived and breathed art and expressed it so uniquely, are honored.
This piece also stems from Yochy’s first overseas flight post-stroke.  She is lifted above the clouds gazing Down at The Almighty’s gift to mankind.
“Remember September”
Imagining beauty in the face of tragedy, Yochy paints a beautiful sunset of the New York Skyline in her retrospective memory of September 11th.
The colors of the painting reflect the Artist’s mood and the echoes of many many others around the globe, “That hope and peace shall prevail and the sky will once again be blue forever.”

“The Red Space”
Yochy was inspired to paint “The Red Space” after Ilan Ramon, Israel’s first astronaut, joined the crew of the space shuttle Columbia, intending to present this painting as a celebration of his celestial Voyage.
Hearing of the tragic explosion, Yochy meticulously  transformed the sky from light pale colors into the red that we see here. Brilliant with passionate poppies and dazzling fireworks of 80 shades of red.  Transformed, “the Red Space” became a memorial tribute to the noble astronauts.
The original now belongs to the Houston Holocaust Museum’s permanent collection.
“From Above”
“From Above” was inspired by Yochy’s first flight overseas after two massive strokes and subsequent paralysis.
The Artist’s heart overflowed with love and pride as she approached the golden mountains shimmering in the distance. The endless orchards of palm trees and the deep turquoise of the Mediterranean beckoning her to her beloved homeland once more.
Upon Yochy’s return, she was honored when “From Above” was selected for permanent display at the offices of the General Consul of Israel to Chicago and the Midwest.

“Sleepless”
“Sleepless” took shape one evening after the Artist’s family had fallen asleep.  Wide awake, Yochy conceived of this painting to wish “Sweet Dreams" for her loved-ones.
Famed conductor, Maestro Zubin Mehta in his recent German book, Die Partitura Meines Lebens  once said, “Good thoughts, Good words, Good deeds” and “the artist’s intentions” adds Yochy.
“The Journey of Life”
We journey through life together, but some of us fall too soon.  One must remember  the living but also those who have fallen.  With every petal that falls, a new one blossoms and “The Journey of Life” is reborn.
Working on “The Journey of Life” helped Yochy grieve for  the loss of loved ones, as well as her own personal loss, and awaken a new chapter of her life.

“Fly With Me”
Wild West here we come!  Yochy’s husband surprised her with a 25th anniversary trip to Nevada.
Her Dream was to ride in a helicopter.  Boarding the helicopter proved to be  a challenge.  To make her Dream a reality she pushed forward – despite her right-side paralysis.
It was a completely unforgettable trip and an inspiration to commit “Nature”, the ultimate masterpiece, to canvas.

“Deep Deep”
Yochy looked “Deep Deep” within herself to find strength, hope,  solace,
wisdom and inspiration; to be re-born and transformed, anew.
Look into Yochy’s eyes, through her journey and find the inspiration
within yourself to strive to achieve the goals that you Dream to achieve.

Biography and Artist Inspiration

Yochy Lapidot Menachem was born in Tel Aviv, Israel and currently lives in Chicago, IL and Boca Raton, FL. She creates Neo-Impressionistic and Contemporary Abstract Landscapes and Figurative Artwork in oil and soft pastels. Her art was initially discovered in "The William Joseph Gallery" in New Orleans. Yochy is also a sculptress, activist and humanitarian. She views art as an act of rebirth as she fought to regain her inspiration and overcome physical challenges surviving from M.S. and two strokes.

Not long ago, Yochy and her family visited their son, Rafi, during his internship at the American Consulate in Vietnam. They decided to take a spontaneous trip throughtout Southeast Asia. Their plans hampered by difficulties finding a local airline willing to take a wheelchair-bound passenger. Finally Yochy succeeded. This experience led her to coin herself as "The Flying Wheelchair" or one who is determined to live life without boundaries nor limitations.
